Amazon is exploring a deal to transfer about $8 billion worth of Nvidia AI chips to outside investors, according to a Financial Times report cited by Reuters.

The proposed transaction would involve a special-purpose vehicle that would raise money from investors to acquire the advanced Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips. Amazon would then lease the chips back, allowing the company to raise capital while continuing to use the hardware for its artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The chips are being installed across more than a dozen Amazon data centers in five U.S. states, including Nevada and Virginia. Amazon could also offer investors as much as a 10% equity stake in the special-purpose vehicle, according to the report.

The reported move comes as major technology companies continue making large investments in AI data centers and computing infrastructure. Amazon and Nvidia had not immediately commented on the reported transaction when Reuters published its report.
