U.S. healthcare manufacturing is set for a major expansion after medical technology company Becton Dickinson (BD) announced plans to invest $3 billion to increase production of essential medical products in the United States.
President Donald Trump announced the investment on October 6, saying more than $1 billion will be directed to Nebraska. The expanded facilities are expected to manufacture a range of medical products, including needles produced using American steel.
The investment comes as the United States seeks to strengthen its domestic medical supply chain and reduce vulnerabilities linked to overseas manufacturing. Increasing U.S. production of critical healthcare products could improve supply resilience for hospitals, clinics and other healthcare providers.
BD's planned expansion also highlights the growing importance of healthcare manufacturing, medical technology and supply-chain security as the U.S. healthcare system faces continued demand for essential medical equipment.
