New Exhibition Brings Contemporary American Art to Charlotte
A new exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Corey Pemberton opens September 19 at The Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, bringing more than 70 works across painting, collage, blown glass, quilts and fiber arts to the museum.
Titled “Corey Pemberton: Living Well,” the exhibition examines everyday living spaces and the objects, memories and experiences that shape personal identity.
Art Inspired by Everyday Life
Pemberton’s work combines different artistic materials and techniques to create detailed representations of domestic environments. The exhibition includes paintings, mixed-media works, textiles and glass objects inspired by items commonly found in living spaces.
The museum says the works explore representations of Black, queer, female and nonbinary individuals, focusing on the ways people create spaces connected to comfort, personality, memories and aspirations.
Exhibition Runs Through January 2027
“Living Well” is being presented at Mint Museum Uptown and will remain on view through January 31, 2027.
The exhibition is organized by The Mint Museum and curated by Jen Sudul Edwards, the museum’s chief curator and curator of contemporary art. It gives visitors an opportunity to explore how contemporary artists can use domestic environments and familiar objects as subjects for larger conversations about identity and lived experience.
