A new national poll has put the cost of living at the center of the U.S. political debate, finding that 78% of Americans blame President Donald Trump’s policies for rising prices ahead of the November midterm elections. The findings could increase pressure on Republicans as they campaign to retain control of Congress.
According to the Reuters/Ipsos survey, 57% of Republicans surveyed also said prices were rising faster than their paychecks. Respondents expressed concern about inflation, fuel costs and the wider economy, issues likely to influence voter priorities in competitive congressional races.
The poll surveyed 4,506 U.S. adults online over six days and had a margin of error of approximately two percentage points for the overall sample. The White House defended the administration’s economic record, pointing to its policies on taxes and prescription drug costs. With the November 3 elections approaching, the findings highlight how affordability and economic performance could shape voter decisions. Poll results reflect public opinion at the time of the survey and do not determine election outcomes.
