REDWOOD CITY, California — September 1, 2026 — SB Energy, a SoftBank-backed developer of power and data-center infrastructure, has filed for a U.S. initial public offering as investors continue to pour money into the infrastructure needed to support the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.

The company reported $138.7 million in revenue during the first half of 2026, a 66.4% increase from the same period a year earlier. However, its net loss widened substantially, highlighting the enormous capital requirements involved in building large-scale energy and data-center projects.

SB Energy is seeking a Nasdaq listing under the proposed ticker SBE, with the IPO potentially valuing the company at more than $50 billion. JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are expected to lead the offering.

The IPO comes as demand for AI computing capacity drives a new wave of investment in electricity generation, data centers and specialized infrastructure. SB Energy has been developing projects designed to connect power generation directly with data-center demand, addressing one of the biggest challenges facing the U.S. AI industry: access to reliable electricity at scale.

The company is also involved in a long-term $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative with OpenAI and SoftBank, while Nvidia has committed significant investment and financial support to related data-center development.

Why the IPO Matters for U.S. Business

SB Energy's planned listing could become an important test of investor appetite for AI infrastructure companies, particularly businesses that sit between the technology and energy sectors.

The broader AI infrastructure market is expected to attract more than $1.3 trillion in global investment by 2027, increasing pressure on utilities, data-center developers and technology companies to secure new power capacity.

For investors, the IPO also illustrates the changing economics of the AI boom. While demand for computing continues to grow, companies must spend heavily on electricity, land, construction and data-center equipment before those investments generate returns.

SB Energy's public-market debut could therefore provide an early indication of how investors value the enormous infrastructure buildout behind America's AI economy.
