WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has announced a new federal task force focused on coordinating the U.S. government’s response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
President Donald Trump said National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton will lead the new “Super Intelligence Force,” alongside Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.
The group will work with AI companies, technology providers, critical infrastructure operators, consumers and public-interest organizations as the government seeks to strengthen U.S. leadership in advanced AI.
The announcement comes amid growing debate over AI safety, cybersecurity risks and government oversight. The administration has recently favored voluntary safeguards and industry cooperation rather than broad new regulations, while technology companies face increasing pressure to demonstrate that advanced AI systems can be developed safely.
The new task force could become an important part of the U.S. strategy for managing advanced AI development, national security and emerging technology risks.
