Why SpaceX Stock Has Soared Above Its IPO Price
SpaceX shares have surged since the company made its public market debut last week, with the stock climbing nearly 50% above its IPO price of $135 per share. By Tuesday afternoon, shares were trading around $202, pushing the company's market valuation to approximately $2.8 trillion and placing it among the world's most valuable corporations.
Market analysts say strong investor enthusiasm, combined with fears of missing out on one of the largest IPOs in history, has fueled the rapid rise in the stock price. The company's ambitious plans in space technology, satellite communications and artificial intelligence have also attracted significant attention from investors.
The Elon Musk-led company has benefited from optimism surrounding its long-term growth strategy, particularly after its merger with AI startup xAI. SpaceX believes the combination of satellite infrastructure and artificial intelligence could open new opportunities, including the development of orbital data centers.
Another factor driving demand is the expectation that SpaceX will soon be added to major stock indexes. Recent changes to Nasdaq listing rules could allow the company to enter key indexes sooner than previously expected, increasing purchases from index funds and retirement accounts such as 401(k) plans.
SpaceX reported revenue of $18.7 billion in 2025, representing a 33% increase from the previous year. Much of that growth was supported by its Starlink satellite internet business, which continues to expand its subscriber base worldwide. However, the company still reported an annual loss of $4.9 billion.
Despite the strong market debut, analysts remain divided on the stock's future. Supporters point to SpaceX's leadership in space technology and AI-related projects, while critics question whether some of its long-term initiatives can generate sustainable profits.
Investors will be watching closely when the company releases its first quarterly earnings report as a publicly traded company, which could provide a clearer picture of whether the recent rally can continue.
