A 19-year-old Illinois man has been arrested and charged after authorities uncovered an alleged mass-shooting plot that may have targeted a Hindu temple in Aurora, a Chicago suburb.

Police identified the suspect as Alexandros Paporakis of Palatine, Illinois. Investigators believe the alleged attack may have been planned for Sunday, October 11, but say the precise intended location remains under investigation.

According to prosecutors, the investigation began after co-workers reported disturbing electronic communications, including a document outlining an alleged plan for mass violence. Authorities say a search of the suspect’s home uncovered a rifle, ammunition and tactical equipment.

Police allege the suspect expressed white supremacist views and made threats targeting Indian people. He faces felony charges related to making a terrorist threat and unlawful weapon possession.

A judge ordered the suspect held while the case proceeds. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 30.

Authorities have not established every detail of the alleged plan, and the charges remain allegations to be tested in court. The case has renewed attention on threats against religious institutions and the role of community reporting in helping law enforcement respond to potential violence.
