MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — September 3, 2026 — A deadly shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building has left two people dead and at least five others injured, including three police officers, according to authorities.

Police responded to the high-rise near East Grant Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday following reports of gunfire. Officers entered the building and encountered victims before following additional gunfire to an upper floor.

Two civilians died—one at the scene and another after being transported to a hospital. The suspected shooter also died, although authorities have not publicly established the circumstances of the death.

Three Minneapolis police officers were injured during the response. Two suffered gunshot wounds, while a third officer sustained another injury. All three officers were reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover.

Authorities also reported that officers encountered an unexplained haze inside the building that significantly affected visibility. The FBI and other law-enforcement agencies are assisting with the investigation.

The motive remains unknown, and officials have not released the identities of the victims.
