NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A major new exhibition by American conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas is coming to the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University this fall.

“LOVERULES — From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation” opens September 2 and runs through December 20, bringing nearly 90 works to the New Brunswick museum.

The exhibition explores how advertising and popular imagery have shaped American ideas about race, gender, identity and culture. Works from Thomas' B®anded and Unbranded series will be featured.

The museum will also present an immersive installation from Unbranded: A Century of White Women, continuing Thomas' examination of representation in commercial imagery.

The exhibition represents a significant homecoming for Thomas, who was born in Plainfield, New Jersey. He has spent decades examining American culture, history and collective memory through photography, sculpture and conceptual art.

A public conversation featuring Thomas and collector Jordan D. Schnitzer is scheduled for September 17.

The Zimmerli exhibition is expected to give New Jersey audiences a major opportunity to explore one of America's prominent contemporary artists and his critical examination of visual culture.
