WASHINGTON — White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her position at the end of August, becoming the latest senior figure to leave a prominent role in President Donald Trump's administration.

Leavitt, who became Trump's press secretary at a young age, will leave the position to focus on her family. She is expected to continue working with the administration as an outside adviser.

Her departure will create a change at the center of the White House's daily communications operation, where the press secretary serves as a key public voice for the president and administration.

Leavitt has been a prominent defender of Trump's policies during White House briefings and media appearances. Her replacement will inherit the task of communicating the administration's agenda during a politically significant period ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

The White House has not yet announced who will permanently succeed her in the role.

Leavitt's planned departure adds another major personnel change to an administration facing intense political, economic and foreign-policy pressure.
