Disney’s Live-Action ‘Moana’ and New Comedy Headline This Week’s Movie Releases

Moviegoers have two major releases to look forward to this week, with Disney bringing one of its most beloved animated adventures to life while a new Hollywood comedy offers a completely different cinematic experience.

Disney's live-action Moana arrives in theaters on July 10, retelling the story of the 2016 animated blockbuster. The film follows the fearless Polynesian princess as she embarks on a daring voyage across the Pacific after answering the ocean's call to save her people. Dwayne Johnson returns to play the charismatic demigod Maui, while newcomer Catherine Laga’aia makes her feature-film debut as Moana.

Also opening on July 10 is Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, an R-rated comedy directed by David Wain, known for Wet Hot American Summer. The film stars Zoey Deutch as a young Midwestern woman who heads to Hollywood seeking revenge after her fiancé has an affair with a famous actress. Jon Hamm co-stars in the comedy, which promises a mix of satire, romance, and outrageous humor.

Together, the two films offer audiences a choice between a family-friendly adventure inspired by Polynesian mythology and an adult comedy packed with celebrity culture and unexpected twists, making them among the week's most anticipated theatrical releases.
